Show a Cash on Delivery fee in the method name
If you charge a collection fee for Cash on Delivery, buyers should see it before they choose the method. Surprise fees cause refused deliveries and support tickets. Renaming the method is the clearest possible disclosure.
Set it up
- Open Template gallery → Add a fee note to COD → Use template.
- The action renames methods containing cash on delivery to Cash on Delivery (+$5 fee). Edit the new name to match your fee.
- Leave the condition empty to always show the note, or add conditions, for example renaming only above a certain cart total.
- Click Save rule.
Notes
- Logo-based methods (PayPal, Klarna, and similar) can't be renamed, because Shopify shows their logo instead of a name.
- On US/Canada stores without Shopify Plus, Shopify doesn't apply customizations to the credit-card form itself. Manual and alternative methods such as COD always work, and the app tells you about this limitation right in the rule editor.
- The rename only changes the label. To actually charge the fee, use your usual approach (for example a shipping-rate or product-based fee).
